New tobacco products narratives: On news media

In Vietnam, news media is a key battleground for the tobacco industry to promote e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products. This study, involving 375 articles, reveals strategies like "Information management" and framing these products as "less harmful" to influence policy. Findings emphasize the need for policy that acknowledges this manipulation.

New tobacco products narratives: On social media

On the Facebook platform, content dissemination about vaping, e-cigarettes, and heated tobacco products is unrestricted. This study employed keyword searches to crawl public posts from tobacco company fan pages, online retailer and influencer accounts to assess the present landscape of information regarding these products. Consequently, images coupled with their core commercial messaging were compiled to elucidate their promotional strategies.
